Global game publisher CFK (headed by Chang-sig Koo) is proud to announce today (4/8) that it has decided to release the Steam version of eastern fantasy shoot’em up Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage to the globe on April 18th and introduce the key features of the game for the second time before its release.
Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage was featured at the Shootersfes 2024, planned and operated by the Mikado City Connection Retro Arcade Center, where the global release date of the Steam version of the game was announced. This event was broadcast on the official Mikado YouTube channel on April 6th and 7th.
Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage, developed by Korean indie game company Deerfarm, is a vertically scrolling shoot’em up (bullet hell) game set to an Eastern background, centered around a plot where our protagonists must avoid the attacks of the youkai who have escaped from hell, collect souls, and then topple their foes with their powerful attacks.
The team behind the 2017 Shikhondo: Soul Eater are now working with CFK to produce the ‘perfected version’ of this game as Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage by improving gameplay and adding in new modes to take the game to the next level, planning to bring it to a new global audience on Steam and the Nintendo Switch™. Together, they plan to make the game more accessible to all players, from casual gamers to manic shooter enthusiasts alike.

▲ Reworked Customize mode
While Customize mode originally centered around choosing the Soul Gauge recharge method, this perfected rebirth of the game gives players the opportunity to enjoy the game according to their tastes. With this new reworking, we are presented with a new way to experience the game with a wide array of options. Check the added elements below.
1) Game mode: Can select either Arcade or Boss Rush mode
2) Soul Gauge type: Can choose one of existing Graze or Attack modes
3) Dual mode: Can toggle Dual mode on or off
4) Hardcore: Can toggle Hardcore mode on or off
5) Starting stage: Can select the starting stage
▲ New content and Korean voice acting added
To increase the quality of Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage and add new content at the same time, this rework has added a new stage and Korean voice acting. >From the original 5 stages, the new rework adds 1 new stage, bringing the total to 6 stages to experience. In order to increase player immersion, new voice acting has also been added. The voice actresses chosen are popular voice actresses, extremely active in voicing animations in addition to games, and they are as follows:

Game options in Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage can now be customized to a greater degree than before.
The game originally only allowed for the customization of music volume, sound effect volume, and language, but it now features new additions, including resolution, window type (windowed, full screen), screen angle adjustment, and language (subtitles available in Korean, English, and Japanese). In addition, players can adjust in-game play settings, including life count, bomb count, number of continues, and boss times.

● Key characters in Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage
1) The girl (Homing attack & induction type character): A girl who fell into this world one day, forgetting even her own name. She begins her journey of hardship, fighting against the youkai in search of her hometown, family, and the memories she lost.
2) Grim Reaper (Straight attack & power type character): The celestial emissary performing her given duties by facing those whose grudges have turned them into youkai. She happens upon the girl and decides to join her to help.
CFK is holding a promotional discount event for Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage to celebrate its April 18th release. Gamers can purchase Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage at a 10% discount from the date of its release until May 2nd.
On top of that, CFK is offering an additional loyalty bundle promotion to celebrate the April 18th release of Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage for those who purchased the previous version, Shikhondo – Soul Eater. It was also featured at the February 27th Tokyo Indie Games Summit, where this new perfected reworking of Shikhondo left quite the entertaining impression on attendees.
